My Understanding of Conservation Broadened at ERuDeF Institute

After undergoing a one-year of study Environmental Science at the University of Buea, my passion for environmental conservation and the desire to put theory into practice heightened. Thus, I decided to embark on an internship in this domain immediately, something that is normally done after second year of undergraduate studies.

In my search, I discovered that the ERuDeF Institute of Biodiversity and Non-profit Studies (ERuDeF Institute) was the best place for this project. I applied and was assigned to carry out internship at the Institute.

On the trail of the endangered Goliath Frog (Conraua goliath) is Manka’a Grace Niba, a postgraduate trainee at the ERuDeF Institute of Biodiversity and Nonprofit Studies (ERuDeF Institute). Manka’a is working on a research project that will contribute to the conservation of the world’s largest frog species, while fulfilling part of the requirements for the award of a Professional Masters Degree (PMD) in Biodiversity Conservation.

ERuDeF Institute of Biodiversity and Non-profit Studies (ERuDeF Institute) and St. Monica University (SMU) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote collaboration between the two institutes. ERuDeF Institute is Cameroon’s pioneer establishment for biodiversity studies with its main campus at Mile 18, Muea Road, Buea.

Extremely Fruitful Field Trip to IRAD

My one-week field trip to IRAD Ekona was marvelous! I learnt vegetative propagation methods at the Fruit Trees Unit at the centre. I practiced budding on citruses using the T-budding method. I also learnt to select the desired type of citrus to use as root stalk and the advantages of the root stock. Preparing a nursery bed and nursery management is another great skill which I could never have acquired if not for this trip.

Parents of some trainees at the ERuDeF Institute of Biodiversity and Non-profit Studies recently expressed their satisfaction with the quality of professional training being given to their children. This was during a ‘Come-together’ organised by the ERuDeF Institute administration to discuss issues pertaining to the professional development of the trainees and the growth of the institution.
