The ERuDeF Institute of Biodiversity and Non Profit Studies declares to the general public that the second edition of their Annual Environmental Education Awards instituted last year to build the capacity and knowledge of youths and student in biodiversity and environmental management is now open for the 2015/2016 academic year.

While seeking to improve the understanding of the Cameroonian public especially youths on the importance and socio-economic value of the environment and its contribution to nation building, the award builds the next generation of environmental leaders.

This second edition of the award dubbed: “Climate Change in Changing Times” is open to high schools and undergraduate students of universities and higher Institutes of learning.  The award seeks to broaden the knowledge of young Cameroonians on the effects of climate change, educate them on mitigation and adaptation measures giving an insight to building resilience to the effects of climate change, and encouraging their participation in the fight against climate change.

Candidates should define climate change with all precision, differentiate between climate change and climate variability, and state the causes of climate change.

Contesters should identify glaring effects of climate change in Cameroon citing real examples and suggesting solutions to further fight climate change.  They should define REDD, distinguish between REDD and REDD+ and state how REDD(+) is geared towards the fight against climate change and/or mitigating its effects.

Lastly, candidates should state 5 career opportunities in the field of the environment and show how each can contribute towards nation building.

Prizes will be awarded to the first five successful candidates. In case of many competitive draws, a tombola will be drawn to select the best five. The first three will carry a cash prize worth fifty, thirty and twenty thousand CFA respectively. The last two winners will receive consolatory prizes of two cartons of books and pens.

All write-ups and copies of students’ identification cards should be put into sealed envelopes marked “ERuDeF Institute 2016 Climate Change in Changing Times Awards”. 

 Envelops should bear students’ addresses including telephone numbers of both the student and their guardians and send to P.O. Box 189 Buea, SW Cameroon and/or deposit at the ERuDeF Institute campus at Mile 18, Muea Road, Buea, SW Cameroon.  The contest runs from 20th November to 31stMarch 2016.

A panel of jurists consisting Media and Legal experts, officials of the ERuDeF Institute, SMU and Ministry of Secondary Education, will meet on Thursday, 7 April, 2016 to deliberate and select the winners. The Winners will receive the prizes on Friday, 13May 2016 at the Institute in Buea, SW Cameroon.
